RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo moved eight points clear at the top of the Brazilian Serie A standings on Thursday with a 3-1 home victory over Atletico Mineiro as the Rio de Janeiro giants extended their unbeaten run to 14 matches.
Willian Arao set the hosts on their way at the Maracana stadium with a 37th-minute header before Nathan de Souza equalized just after halftime.
Vitinho restored Flamengo's lead after dribbling past two defenders and he then combined with teenager Reinier, who completed the rout from close range in the 76th minute.
Flamengo now have 55 points from 24 games in Brazil's top flight as they close in on their first Serie A title since 2009.
In other matches on Thursday, Athletico Paranaense drew 2-2 at Corinthians and Vasco da Gama held Avai to a goalless draw in Florianopolis.
