GAZA, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Israeli army forces shot and killed on Sunday a Palestinian militant on the border between the northern Gaza Strip and Israel.
According to the medical Palestinian sources, the body of the Palestinian was pulled out by the medical workers from an area east of northern Gazan town of Beit Hanoun, close to the border with Israel.
Meanwhile, an Israeli army spokesman said Israeli soldiers stationed on the borders with the northern Gaza Strip killed a militant from Gaza who carried out an armed attack on the soldiers near the fence of the borders.
The Palestinian gunman approached the border fence, opened fire at the soldiers who fired back and shot him dead, the spokesman said in a press statement.
Israeli army tanks later targeted lookout posts that belong to Hamas' armed wing in response to the shooting attack, he added.
No injury or damage was reported on the Israeli side, the Israeli spokesman noted.
The exchange of fire on the border between the northern Gaza Strip and Israel coincides with the celebration of the Islamic holiday Eid al-Adha, or the "Festival of the Sacrifice."
A day earlier, the Israeli army killed four Hamas militants to the east of the central Gazan town of Deir al-Balah close to the border with Israel.
The Israeli army said the four militants were planning to carry out an armed attack inside Israel.
