BEIRUT, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Wang Kejian said Tuesday that China is willing to actively participate in the construction of new telecommunication projects in Lebanon.
During a meeting with Lebanese Telecommunication Minister Mohammad Choucair, Wang hailed the excellent cooperation between the two sides in the telecom industry.
He said that China is willing to actively take part in the next-phase construction of Lebanese telecom projects, and expects to carry out more pragmatic cooperation with Lebanon under the Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by China in 2013 for building trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Africa and Europe along the ancient Silk Road trade routes.
The Chinese envoy also expressed the hope that "Lebanon will provide an open and fair business environment for Chinese companies to do business in the country."
For his part, Choucair spoke highly of the technology and service provided by Chinese telecom companies in Lebanon, as well as the good cooperation between the two sides.
He welcomed China's continued active participation in the construction of telecom infrastructure in Lebanon, especially the construction of 5G networks.
The minister added that Lebanon will act on basis of its own national interests and industry development needs, free from any external interference, in a bid to create a good and fair competing environment for foreign companies, including Chinese ones.
